Warlocks Sub Teams

The Warlocks are made up of 5 Sub Teams

They are:

The Build Team
The build team is probably the largest sub-team of the Warlocks, when it comes to student numbers. At the beginning of the build season, the build team actually splits into its own sub-teams, as small, mentor or student-led groups work on specific prototypes. Eventually, when the concept of the robot all comes together, the build team functions as one large unit and begins work on the robot, often using tweaked versions of prototypes. The build team must work closely with the CAD Team and the Programming Team throughout the build. A large number of valuable mentors assist the build team. They, along with some senior students, take charge of prototyping teams and train new students in how to operate some of the more complex machinery. This season, the students in charge of the build team are seniors Colin Stutz, Brian Smist, and Taylor Roland-Torrey, who is also the safety captain.

The CAD Team

The CAD team consists of five members this year. Stephanie Lachell, team captain, works on the general assembly, part conception, design accelerator components and Inventor Studio presentations for the Autodesk Design Competition using Autodesk Inventor software. Rookies Victoria Sawyer, Abigial Haseley, Sebastian Habermehl, and Ryan Kick, work on learning the Autodesk Inventor software. Emilyann Kerr, a two-year veteran, work on the Autodesk Visualization Award using Autodesk 3Ds MAX software. Mentors Alex Kapaan, and Peter Carlino assist the CAD team along the way.

The Public Relations ("PR") Team

The Public Relations (PR) sub team consists of a small, yet dedicated group of students who work to promote the overall image of the FIRST Robotics team 1507, the Warlocks. The PR team works with each sub team in order to orchestrate team functions such as fundraisers and take care of all “odds-and-ends” the team encounters during the season. The PR team works with its members, as well as other members of the team, to create buttons for publicity, write thank you letters to our supporters, and create banners to support and draw attention to the team. The PR team also organizes fundraisers and helps set up charity events. During competition the PR team works to hand out buttons, gather information for our team, talks with spectators and judges, and takes photographs of all the action.

The Programming Team

Working towards learning the relatively new LabView graphical programming software, our programmers are ever vigilant in the fight against robot mutiny and the virtual control over the robots physical components. Team members consist of mentors: Al Gritzmacher and Ken Handley, as well as students: Nse Obot, Edwin Santos Collin Smith and Micheal Topolski.

In our never ending battle to aid human control over their robotic counterparts, members also work closely with other sub teams within The Warlocks especially the electrical and design teams. After the initial robot design process is begun, we work dynamically to activate, bring to controllable life and bind robotic muscles and arms to physical controls able to be manipulated by a user. This process also includes troubleshooting; we learn more from mistakes made rather than early advances. Following this process, the team works to add functionality to our nearly completed machine immediately after this process, its time to ship. Competition day!! During competitions, our team corrects any minor error present especially in areas of code such as autonomous mode. The job of the programmer is a never ending mission against the robotic world; our acts preserve the force that binds robotic control to our human peers and insurance of the upkeep of the three laws of robotics.

Isaac Asimov's "Three Laws of Robotics"

A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.

A robot must obey orders given it by human beings except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.

A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law.

The Scouting Team

The Scouting Team is responsible for the entire scouting operations during the competition season. The scouting team collects data from our team members and other teams to produce a detailed set of reports for the pit crew and drivers to review Friday night in preparation for the alliance selection Saturday afternoon. The team uses the combined powers of Microsoft Access and Microsoft Excel to produce a detailed scouting report. Several of these members are approaching graduation so we have included multiple rookies into the team in hopes of training them to become masters of the program. The Scout team is:

Adam - Adam is currently a Senior at Lockport, and is currently the President of the Scouting Team. He is responsible for the general management and oversees all of the scouting operations. He is also responsible for delivering the detailed scouting reports to the drive team and pit crew and running the scouting meeting on Friday night.

Alex - Alex is currently a Senior at Lockport, and is currently the Vice President of the Scouting Team. He is responsible for assisting the President with the scouting teams general operations at the event and in the hotel.

Zach - Zach is currently a Sophomore at Lockport, and is currently training to become the President of the Scouting Team. He is responsible for scouting scheduling and organization.

Ryan- is currently a Sophomore at Lockport, and is currently training to become the Vice President of the Scouting Team. He is responsible for pit team relations and data exchange.

The Web Team

The website which you are currently viewing was developed entirely by students this year. The web team is:

Adam - Adam is a Senior at Lockport, and is currently in his fourth year with the warlocks and the web team. He is responsible for the general management of the entire website, and oversees all the project areas.

Matt - Matt is a Sophomore at Lockport, and is currently in his first year with the warlocks and the web team. He is responsible for maintaining all of the resources on the site.

Sara - Sara is a Junior at Lockport, and is currently in her first year with the warlocks and the web team. She is responsible for taking photos and maintaining the gallery.
