THE DELPHI GOLDEN GEAR AWARD!

The Delphi Golden Gear Award

The Warlocks are very honored to receive the Delphi Golden Gear Award, which recognizes the highest-scoring Delphi-sponsored team in each year's FIRST Robotics Competition. By a very narrow margin, Team 1507 earned this amazing status among the Delphi teams in 2005. Previous recipients of the award include:

The members of the Warlocks were absolutely ecstatic when they heard of their achievement of being placed among the best teams sponsored by Delphi!

Thank you to everyone who helped us reach our goal of attending the F.I.R.S.T. National Competition in Atlanta.

Our thanks to all those who helped us with donations big and small; they all helped. It is most gratifying to know our community supports us and believes in our program.

It's not too late to help out. Learn how to help the Warlocks here.

Along with our sponsors, the Warlocks wish to thank the many generous people and organizations who have donated generously in order for us to travel to and compete at the Nationals.

The Warlocks team is a first year robotics team out of Lockport High School in Lockport, New York. We have recently competed in the Finger Lakes Regional competition in Rochester, New York from March 3rd to March 5th, bringing home a Second-Place trophy, and in the Chesapeake Regional in Annapolis, Maryland from March 17th to March 19th, where we won both Rookie All-Star and Top Ranked Rookie Team awards.

Friends & Mentors: Warlocks and Circuit Stompers togetherOfficially, we have only been around since the beginning of the 2004 school year. However, a few of the team members were mentored by the Circuit Stompers 378 team last year. This guidance acted as a stepping stone giving several of us some experience with US FIRST and the robotics competition. The Circuit Stompers mentorship has been instrumental in our success this season, and we wish to acknowledge and thank them publicly for their role in our success.

Both teams are sponsored by Lockport's Delphi Thermal & Interior, which was instrumental in starting both teams along the way. Delphi is now a joint sponsor for seven teams including both the Warlocks and The Circuit Stompers.

About the competition

Earlier this year, teams across the US, and the entire world got together to find out what our objectives would be and what obstacles our robot would have to be designed to overcome.

"Triple Play" is a game in which three-sided PVC pyramids (tetrahedrons) must be placed atop others in order to score points.

Each tetra placed atop another is three points; another is six, and so forth. A ten point bonus is awarded if they are placed in rows of three with ours on the top of the columns; the field of play is set up much like a tic-tac-toe board, so there are many ways to get the bonus. Obviously, command of these rows is very influential in deciding the victor. If you would like to see the full set of rules, please visit the US FIRST web site.
